Learn the basics about individual and ensemble marching percussion techniques.  Goals are to introduce rudimentsl and typical exercises for young percussionists.  This session will give the percussionist valuable exposure to standard marching drumline techniques.  Highly encouraged for any percussionist that will march in a parade or perform in their own school’s drum line,  Every drummer can benefit from this workshop to strengthen jazz, rock, drum set, and other orchestral drumming.  You do NOT have to be a percussionist to come to this workshop.  Beginners welcome, but there’ll be plenty of challenge for more intermediate players.

HCE’s early influences come from 60’s psychedelia, 70’s prog-rock and 80’s new wave.  They’ve been compared to and actually favor such artists as The Beatles, Elton John, XTC, Suzanna Vega, Frank Zappa, and The Muppets.  Comtemporary comparisons point to Duncan Sheik, Ben Folds, and The Shins.

“A piano-sugared pop confection that’s refined and sweet…jaunty rhythms and melodies that sweep and soar.”—Willamette Week

Rachel Taylor Brown makes disturbing yet sensible songs you can sometimes dance to. Two of her songs are featured in the acclaimed new book, "Music: What Happened?" by Scott Miller (The Loud Family, Game Theory). Ben Landsverk (Holcombe Waller and the Healers) joins her for this show.

Tigard High School
NWAPA Drum Line Competition/Performances - 11am-5pm (Kingsmen Thunder performs at 1pm))
9000 SW Durham Rd.
Tigard, OR 97224
Price: ?

The Kingsmen Thunder Drum Line will perform at the stand alone invitational.  This is a more relaxed performance that is not judged, however, we will receive feedback.  Since the drum line does not yet have a front ensemble (pit orchestra with mallets, etc) we cannot compete because of the lack of melodic component.  However, we will be "getting our feet" wet and this is the first time the drum line will display at a drum line event.  Come support the Thunder as they show off their new drum cadences and a few visuals that they have worked so hard this year on!  Time we perform will be posted.  It is definitely worth coming for a couple hours to see some of the amazing Indoor Drum Lines that Oregon and WA has to offer.  Simply amazing feats of musicianship, drumming, and movement.
